A flat carpet mat spreads water and grit into the footwell. A molded floor liner with a raised lip holds it, which is the entire difference and the reason liners cost more.
Vehicle-specific beats universal here more than in any other interior category. A liner cut for your floorpan follows the transmission tunnel, sits under the pedals without touching them, and locks to the factory retention posts so it cannot slide forward. A universal mat trimmed with scissors does none of that, and a mat that creeps under a pedal is a genuine hazard rather than an inconvenience.

Four-wheel drive changes the front mat
Four-wheel drive models often carry a transfer case hump that makes the front liner a different part entirely, and bench versus bucket seating changes the rear. Check the configuration rather than the model year.
Cargo liners for the area behind the rear seats are sold separately and are worth having on anything that hauls wet or dirty gear.
