What performance bolt-ons actually change
Bolt-on power has a ceiling, and it sits lower than the advertising suggests. What a cold air intake and an exhaust system genuinely change is how the engine breathes under load: throttle response, the note it makes at two thousand rpm, and how hard it has to work dragging a trailer up a grade.
On a diesel those gains are real and measurable. On a gas V8 they are modest and mostly felt rather than seen on a dyno.
