F-150 cold air intakes: what the turbo engines want
An F-150 cold air intake replaces the factory airbox and inlet tubing with a larger filter and a straighter path to the throttle body. What you notice depends on the engine. The turbocharged V6 breathes through a compressor that is already the restriction, so the change shows up as induction noise and throttle feel more than anything else, while the V8 responds in the more familiar way.
The physical choice is between a sealed box drawing from outside the engine bay and an open element behind a heat shield. Sealed keeps intake temperatures down in traffic; open sounds better and is easier to service. Media matters too. Oiled cotton is cleaned and re-oiled, dry is rinsed.
