Ram 1500 Exhaust Systems: A Buyer's Guide by Generation and Engine

Buyer’s guide · MBRP Exhaust, Borla · written October 31, 2026

See all Ram 1500 exhaust systems we carry →

The Ram 1500 is the truck where "what year is it" is not enough to pick an exhaust. From 2019 to 2024 Ram sold two different trucks under the same name, and from 2025 a system can be listed for one Hurricane engine output and not another. Add the TRX and the RHO, which each get their own kit, and a part number that fits one Ram 1500 can be wrong for the one parked next to it.

This guide is organized the way the fitment data is: by body, then by engine, then by what the kit actually is. It covers the MBRP and Borla systems we carry. Every fitment and exclusion here is taken from those products' own data.

Know your body first

The fourth-generation Ram 1500 ran from 2009 to 2018. When the fifth generation arrived for 2019, Ram kept the old truck in production as the Ram 1500 Classic and sold it alongside the new one through 2024. The Classic is the 2009 to 2018 truck wearing a new badge, and it takes the older exhaust.

So there are three trucks, not two. The 2009 to 2018 Ram 1500 and the 2019 to 2024 Ram 1500 Classic share systems. The 2019 to 2024 Ram 1500 (the new body) has its own. And the 2025 and later truck, with the Hurricane engine, has a third set. The product pages list the Classic as its own model, so if you have a 2019 to 2024 Ram, check which of the two it is before reading further.

The steel grades, and why the warranty follows them

MBRP sells most of its Ram systems in several materials, and each product page names the one you are looking at. T409 and T304 are stainless steel grades. AL is aluminized steel. BLK is a black system. CF means carbon fiber.

The warranty tracks the material. MBRP's T409 and T304 systems carry a lifetime warranty. Aluminized systems carry three years. Black-coated systems carry one year. Carbon fiber tip sets carry no warranty. That is the cleanest way to think about the choice: the stainless systems carry the Lifetime warranty.

Borla's 141031 carries Borla's Million-Mile warranty on systems and parts.

2009 to 2018 Ram 1500, and the 2019 to 2024 Classic

This is the older body, and it has the widest range of options in the guide. Everything in this section except the filter-back fits the 2009 to 2010 Dodge Ram 1500, the 2011 to 2018 Ram 1500 and the 2019 to 2024 Ram 1500 Classic. Trims differ from part to part and year to year, so check yours on the product page.

Muffler replacements

MBRP's muffler replacements are the smallest change in this section. S5101409 is a 3 inch muffler with a 4 inch outside-diameter tip, in T409. It does not fit trucks with factory dual exhaust. S5141409 is the opposite case: a 3 inch single-inlet, 2.25 inch dual-outlet muffler built to replace the factory dual.

Single side exit cat-backs

A cat-back replaces everything behind the catalytic converter. MBRP's 3 inch single side exit system for this body comes in three materials with one design: S5142409 in T409, S5142AL in aluminized, and S5142BLK in black.

Dual split exits

The dual split systems split the exit in two, either at the side or at the rear. S5144409 and S5144AL are the 3 inch cat-back with 2.5 inch dual split side exit, in T409 and aluminized. For a rear exit there are three: S5146304 in T304, S5146409 in T409 and S5146AL in aluminized.

Filter-back for the 2014 to 2018 truck

S6169409 and S6169AL are a different kind of system. They are 3.5 inch filter-back systems, which means they start behind the truck's exhaust filter rather than at the catalytic converter, with a single side exit. Check that your truck has that filter before you order. The fitment is the 2014 to 2018 1500 only, from Tradesman and ST to Laramie Longhorn and Limited. T409 or aluminized.

Tips for this body

T5200BLK is a 5 inch outside-diameter dual-wall angle-cut tip set in black, listed for the 2009 to 2018 truck and the Classic. It replaces the factory duals.

2019 to 2024 Ram 1500, the new body

The fifth-generation truck has its own systems. None in this section is listed for the Classic, and some say so outright. Trims differ from part to part, so check yours on the product page.

Muffler replacement

S5143409 is a 3 inch single in, single out high-flow muffler in T409. It fits trucks with factory duals only, and MBRP lists it as not fitting the 2019 to 2022 Ram 1500 Classic.

Cat-backs

For a single side exit there is S5153304 in T304 and S5153AL in aluminized, both 3 inch. For a 2.5 inch dual split rear exit there is S5152304 in T304 and S5152BLK in black. The rear exit pair is listed for crew cab and quad cab models.

Tips for this body

T5199 is a 5 inch dual-wall angle-cut tip set in T304, and T5199CF is the same set with carbon fiber. Both are listed for the 2019 to 2024 truck across its trims and replace the factory duals.

2025 and 2026: the Hurricane, standard output only

This is the fitment trap of the whole guide. MBRP's S5156 cat-backs are listed for the Hurricane 3.0L SST standard output engine only, and they do not fit the high output engine, marked HO. They also do not fit trucks with a factory dual-inlet muffler. The RHO has its own kit, covered below.

Within that limit, the system is a 3 inch cat-back with 2.5 inch dual split rear exit, in three forms: S5156304 in T304, S51563CF in T304 with carbon fiber tips, and S5156AL in aluminized. The trims are Tradesman, Express, Big Horn, Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Sport and Warlock.

Borla's 141031 is the S-Type cat-back for the 2025 1500. Borla lists it as fitting everything except the High Output and the GT Package. It ships without tips, so you reuse the factory tips or add Borla's.

Tips for 2025 and 2026

T5204 in T304, T5204BLK in black and T5204CF in carbon fiber are 5 inch dual-wall angle-cut tip sets for the 2025 to 2026 truck. They replace the factory tips and are listed across the trims, including the RHO.

TRX and RHO: one kit each

The TRX of 2021 to 2024 has its own system. MBRP S51543CF is a 3 inch cat-back with dual split rear exit, in T304 with carbon fiber tips, which MBRP calls the race version. It is listed for the TRX and the TRX Launch Edition and nothing else. That is a different truck from the TRX and TRX4 trims listed on the 2009 to 2010 Dodge Ram 1500.

The RHO, listed for 2025 and 2026, gets S51573CF: a 3 inch cat-back with dual split rear exit in T304 with carbon fiber tips. MBRP lists it for installation on RHO models only. If you have an RHO, this is the cat-back; the standard-output Hurricane systems above are not listed for it.

How to choose

Settle the body first. If the truck is a 2019 to 2024, confirm whether it is a Classic or the new body, because no cat-back in this guide fits both. If it is a 2025 or 2026, confirm standard output, high output or RHO before you look at a single part number.

Then pick the layout. A muffler replacement is the smallest change. A cat-back replaces the system from the converter back, and the side exit versus dual split rear exit is a matter of where you want the tips to show. A tip set on its own changes the look without touching the pipes.

Last, pick the steel with the warranty in mind. Stainless, T409 or T304, is the lifetime choice. Aluminized and black are shorter. Every MBRP system here has its installation documents linked on the product page, and the fitment table on each page is the final word on your trim.
