Hitch locks and pins: the cheapest theft deterrent you can buy
A hitch pin holds the ball mount in the receiver, and a plain clip pin lets anyone in a parking lot walk off with it. A locking pin costs a few dollars more and removes that possibility entirely.
A coupler lock is the other half, filling the trailer's coupler so it cannot be dropped onto someone else's ball. Together they are the least expensive security available for a trailer, and the pair defeats the opportunist — which is who takes trailers. Keyed-alike sets matter more than they sound: one key for every lock on the truck is the difference between using them and not.

Pin diameter and weather
Receivers come in more than one size, and a pin for a two-inch receiver will not suit a two-and-a-half. Measure rather than assume, particularly on a truck rated for heavy towing.
Locks live outdoors, in salt and grit, and a cheap mechanism seizes within a season. Look for a weather-sealed barrel and keep it greased.
