The rear bumper takes what the front one does not: the ledge you back off, the trailer that swings, and the weight of a spare that no longer fits under the bed.
Departure angle is the reason to replace it: a factory bumper hangs low and catches on the way out of everything the front cleared. A tire carrier is the second reason, because an oversized spare rarely fits the factory location. Rated recovery points at the back matter as much as at the front, since a stuck truck usually comes out the way it went in. Weight lands behind the axle and changes how the rear rides.

Sensors, hitch access and the spare
Parking sensors and backup cameras need a bumper designed to carry them across. Check hitch access too. Some bumpers keep the factory receiver, some carry their own, and some obstruct it.
A swing-out tire carrier needs its latch and pivot maintained or it develops a rattle you will hear on every washboard road, and the swing arc has to clear the tailgate and whatever is parked beside you. Check the carrier's rated tire size against the spare you actually run, not the one the truck came with.
