Straps and ropes: know which one stretches
The most dangerous mistake in recovery is using the wrong line for the job, and the difference is stretch.
A kinetic recovery rope is designed to stretch, storing energy and releasing it to pull a stuck vehicle out with momentum. A tow strap barely stretches and is for towing a rolling vehicle. Use a tow strap kinetically and you shock-load everything in the chain; use a kinetic rope to tow and it behaves like a rubber band. Neither should ever have a hook with an open throat on the end, and no chain belongs anywhere in a recovery line.

Rated ends, dampers and inspection
Every connection point must be rated, and the strap's working load limit should suit the loaded weight of the heavier vehicle rather than the lighter one. Loop ends and soft shackles keep steel out of the system, which is what makes a failure survivable.
Lay a damper over the line before every pull. Retire anything with a cut, a burn or serious abrasion — synthetic gives no warning before it lets go. These fit by rating rather than by vehicle. We stock 44 strap and rope parts from 3 brands.
