Tail lights: the ones behind you have less time to react
LED tail lights reach full brightness faster than a filament bulb. At highway speed that difference is a car length of extra reaction distance for whoever is behind you, which is a better argument for the upgrade than the way they look.
Sequential turn signals and smoked lenses are style choices with a legal dimension. Smoke reduces output, and enough of it will fail an inspection. Whatever you fit needs to be DOT-compliant, and on a modern truck it also needs to talk to a canbus system that will report a fault or hyper-flash if the load is wrong.

Canbus, load resistors and third brake lights
A vehicle that monitors bulb current reads an LED as a burned-out lamp unless the assembly handles it. Kits are usually sold canbus-ready, but a cheap one will hyper-flash or throw a warning, and a load resistor is the fix people end up buying afterwards.
