Tundra shocks: heat is what separates them

A shock absorber turns suspension movement into heat and then has to get rid of it. On a Tundra that matters more than the brochure suggests, because these trucks tow and carry, and shocks that are fine on a smooth commute fade on a washboard road with a trailer behind them.

Twin-tube dampers are the affordable default and are perfectly good for most use; oil and gas share a chamber, and sustained work eventually aerates it, which is what fade feels like from the driver's seat. Monotube designs separate the two and hold their damping when hot, which is why they cost more and why they suit a truck that works. Past that it is fitment: the front is a coilover and the rear differs by generation, so the listings state the years and the ride height each unit suits.
