Picking an F-150 exhaust comes down to four checks, in this order. First the model year, because every system here is written for a year range. Second the cab and bed, because several systems list exclusions for them.
Third, for newer trucks, the engine. Fourth the steel, because the warranty follows it.
This guide covers the MBRP and Borla systems we carry for the F-150. Every fitment, exclusion and warranty statement is taken from those products' own data. The fitment table on each product page is the final word on your truck.
The steel grades, and why the warranty follows them
MBRP sells most of its F-150 systems in more than one material, and each product page names the one you are looking at. T409 and T304 are stainless steel grades.
AL is aluminized steel, which is steel with an aluminum coating. BLK is black coated aluminized steel.
The warranty tracks the material. MBRP's T409 and T304 systems carry a Lifetime warranty, and aluminized systems carry a 3-year warranty. Black coated systems carry a 1-year warranty on the black powder coating and a 3-year warranty on the remaining parts.
MBRP also notes that winter conditions, heavy salt air and road treatments can speed up corrosion on T409, and that this is not covered unless the part fails completely.
Borla builds from T-304 stainless and lists a Million-Mile Warranty on systems and parts. Where a Borla system has black chrome tips, the warranty adds a 1-year warranty on black coatings, tip finishes and carbon fiber parts. Some Borla listings (140903, 140904, 60640CFBA and 60736) refer to Borla's website for the warranty terms instead of stating them, so confirm the coverage there.
Know the layout
A cat-back replaces the exhaust from the catalytic converter back. A single side exit has one outlet at the side of the truck. A dual split exit divides the pipe in two, and the outlets finish at the side or at the rear.
MBRP also lists pre-axle dual outlet systems and systems it labels Race Version or Street Version. Some systems include the tip and some do not. The product page says which, and the notes below do too.
2004 to 2008
S5200409 is a 3-inch T409 single side exit cat-back with a 4-inch tip. MBRP excludes extended cab trucks with the 8-foot box.
S5202409 and S5202AL are 3-inch cat-backs that divide into 2.5-inch pipes with a rear exit, and S5204AL has a side exit. All three include 3.5-inch tips. All four 2004 to 2008 systems are listed in XL, XLT, STX, Lariat, King Ranch, Limited, FX2 and FX4, with the Harley-Davidson and 60th Anniversary editions.
2009 to 2010
S5210409 is a 3-inch T409 single side exit cat-back with a 4-inch tip and a Lifetime warranty. MBRP lists it for the 2009 to 2010 F-150 as a whole, with no trim names. Extended cab trucks with the 8-foot box are excluded.
2011 to 2014
S5232AL is a 3-inch aluminized cat-back with a dual split side exit. S5234AL and S5240AL have a dual split rear exit, and S5240BLK is the black coated version of that layout. All four include 3.5-inch tips and exclude extended cab trucks with the 8-foot box.
S5234AL carries further cab and box exclusions in its notes. Check its fitment table before you order.
S5248409 and S5248AL are 4-inch single side exit systems with a 5-inch tip, in T409 and aluminized steel. S5248P is the 4-inch aluminized single side exit without a tip, with a 1-year warranty.
S5261BLK is a black coated 3-inch pre-axle dual outlet system with 4.5-inch tips.
2015 to 2020
S5253AL is a 3-inch aluminized single side exit with a 4-inch tip. MBRP excludes the 2019 Limited with the 3.5L EcoBoost High Output.
S5258AL and S5258BLK divide the 3-inch pipe into 2.5-inch pipes with a rear exit and include 3.5-inch tips, in aluminized and black coated steel. S5259409 and S5259BLK are 4-inch single side exit systems with a 5-inch tip, in T409 and black coated steel.
S5260AL is the Race Version pre-axle dual outlet system, with a single side outlet and a 4-inch tip. It does not fit trucks with factory dual exhaust.
S5262304, S5262AL and S5262BLK are the Street Version, with a passenger side outlet and 4-inch tips. They exclude regular cab short box trucks and factory dual exhaust.
2021 to 2026: MBRP and the PowerBoost exclusion
MBRP's newest F-150 systems are listed for 2021 to 2026 in King Ranch, Lariat, Limited, Platinum, SSV, STX, XL and XLT. None of them fits the PowerBoost. Confirm your powertrain before you read any further.
S5209304, S5209409, S5209AL and S5209BLK are the 4-inch Race Version single side exit systems, with a 5-inch tip, in T304, T409, aluminized and black coated steel. S5211304 is the 3-inch T304 single side exit, with a 4-inch tip and a Street Profile.
2021 to 2025: Borla by engine
Borla's F-150 systems for these years name the engine they are written for. The 2.7L and 3.5L V6 systems exclude the 3.5L PowerBoost, the Raptor, the Tremor and trucks with the Black Appearance Package.
The 5.0L V8 systems exclude the Tremor and the Black Appearance Package. Two more systems are written for the 3.5L PowerBoost.
For the 2.7L and 3.5L V6, 140862 is a Touring cat-back with a split rear exit and bright chrome tips. 140862BC has a split rear exit and black chrome tips. 140870 is a Touring cat-back with a dual passenger side exit and bright chrome tips, and 140870BC has black chrome tips.
For the 5.0L V8, 140865 is a Touring split rear exit with bright chrome tips and 140865BC has black chrome tips. 140873BC is a Touring dual passenger side exit with black chrome tips. 140874BC is an S-Type dual passenger side exit with black chrome tips. Borla lists adapters for the longer cab and bed combinations.
For the XL regular cab with the 5.0L V8 and the standard bed, 140868 is an S-Type split rear exit with bright chrome tips and 140868BC has black chrome tips. 140876 is an S-Type dual passenger side exit with bright chrome tips. 140877 is an ATAK dual passenger side exit with bright chrome tips. A regular cab with the long bed needs an adapter.
For the 3.5L PowerBoost, 140903 is an S-Type with a split rear exit and black chrome tips. 140904 is an S-Type with a dual passenger side exit and bright chrome tips. Both are listed for the crew cab with the short bed.
Raptor and Raptor R: tail pipes and a mid-section
Borla's Raptor parts here are tail pipes and a mid-section. 60727CFBA is a 3-inch tail pipe with a 4.5-inch carbon fiber tip, listed for the 2021 to 2025 Raptor crew cab and the 2023 to 2025 Raptor R.
60640CFBA is a 3-inch tail pipe with a 4.5-inch carbon fiber tip, listed for the Raptor, Limited and Tremor from 2017 to 2025. Both work with the original mid-section or with the Borla mid-sections named on the product page.
60736 is an S-Type mid-section with muffler and mid-pipe. Borla lists it for the Raptor R Package with the 5.2L V8 only. It includes active exhaust valves and is a True Dual design.
How to choose
Settle the year first. Then match your cab and bed to the exclusions on the product page, and read the fitment table for your trim. For a 2021 or newer truck, confirm the engine before you look at a part number.
Then pick the layout. A single side exit has one outlet, and a dual split exit moves the outlets to the side or the rear. A pre-axle dual outlet is a different arrangement again, so check whether the tip is included.
Last, pick the steel with the warranty in mind. On MBRP, T409 and T304 carry a Lifetime warranty, and aluminized carries a 3-year warranty. Every system here has its installation guides on the product page.
