Choosing a kit
Gladiator lift kits: Wrangler axles, a different rear
The Gladiator borrows the Wrangler's running gear and then asks it to carry a bed. Solid axles at both ends mean a lift kit works the same way in principle, but the wheelbase is much longer and the rear is rated to haul, so Wrangler coil springs are not a substitute even where they look identical.
The extra length changes what matters. A longer truck is steadier at speed and clumsier over a crest, so skid plates and driveshaft angle enter the conversation earlier than they do on a two-door Jeep. Kits that raise the rear have to keep the load rating intact rather than simply lift it, which is why rear springs and shocks are matched to each other rather than mixed.
