Ram 3500 shocks: air-leveled or steel-sprung
What splits this page is the rear suspension the truck was ordered with. Ram offers an auto-leveling air arrangement on the 3500, and those trucks carry their own air springs and dampers; a conventional shock absorber is not a drop-in, and the listings that exclude them say so. On the steel-sprung trucks the rear is a conventional leaf setup and the choice is wide open.
What the truck does decides the rest. A shock that is comfortable empty is under-damped with a loaded bed or a trailer tongue on the hitch, and the units built for this truck lean firm for that reason. On the four-wheel-drive trucks the front is a solid axle on coils, where length and travel matter as much as valving, and a steering stabilizer takes care of the linkage separately.
