Fit a bigger tire and it throws stones at your paint, at your doors and at the car behind you. Fender flares exist to cover it, and in most states covering the tread is a legal requirement rather than a preference.
Pocket-style flares carry visible bolt heads and the widest coverage. Bolt-on flares give a smooth face over the same footprint. OE-style replacements simply restore what the factory fitted. The number that matters is how far the flare extends past the fender. Buy for the tire and offset you actually run, because a flare chosen for looks frequently does not cover the tread it needs to.

Drilling, paint and what arrives in the box
Some flares use factory holes and some require drilling the fender, which is not reversible. Check before ordering rather than after. Most arrive in textured black; smooth versions are primed and expect paint, which is a cost people forget.
