Ranger shocks: two eras under one name
The Ranger name covers a compact truck built for decades and a mid-size truck that replaced it after a gap, and they share almost nothing where shocks and struts are concerned. Mounts, lengths and travel all differ, so the model year is the first thing any listing on this page is filtering on.
Both put a coilover or strut arrangement at the front and leaf springs at the rear, which means the rear shock absorber is helping a spring that already damps itself a little while the front one does the harder job. If the truck has been leveled or lifted, settle that before ordering: the listings quote the ride height each unit suits, and a damper sized for stock runs out of stroke on a raised truck.
