Choosing a spring

Wrangler springs: height comes from here, ride does not

Coil springs are what actually set a Wrangler's ride height. Everything else in a lift reacts to them: the shocks control what the spring does, the track bar re-centers the axle the spring raised, and the springs themselves decide how much weight the Jeep carries before it sits back down.

Rate is the specification worth reading. A soft spring rides well empty and sags under a steel bumper, a winch and a rear tire carrier; a stiff one holds the height and beats you up on the commute. Dual-rate springs are the usual compromise and are why so many kits use them. A 2.5 inch spring is the common starting point on this Jeep.
