Tacoma shocks: bare damper or the whole strut

The question that decides most Tacoma shock purchases is what comes in the box up front. The factory arrangement is a coilover, so you can replace the damper alone and reuse the spring and top mount, or buy a complete strut assembly that arrives ready to bolt in. The first costs less and wants a spring compressor and some patience; the second is a straight swap.

At the rear the truck is leaf-sprung, so a conventional damper is all that is involved. What matters there is length. A shock absorber sized for stock height tops out on a truck that has been lifted, and one sized for a lift will not control a stock truck. Every item here states the ride height it suits along with the years and drivetrains, and rear shocks are listed separately from the front where they are sold that way. That is 60 items in all.
