Choosing a kit

Sierra 1500 leveling kits and tire clearance

A leveling kit on a Sierra 1500 exists to close the factory rake and to make room for a taller tire. The second part is worth thinking about first: the reason most owners level a half-ton is that the tire they want will not clear at stock height, so the kit — usually a strut spacer — is a means rather than the goal.

Which one depends on the truck. The older trucks adjust at the torsion bar, the later ones take a spacer above the strut, and two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive trucks do not share those parts. AT4 and other off-road trims already left the factory sitting higher, so a kit adds less to them than the height on the box suggests. Shocks at the new ride height keep the front composed once the spring is working in a different part of its travel. Every kit here prints the years and drivetrains it covers. The list runs to 21 kits.
