Picking a Tacoma lift kit comes down to three answers, in this order. First, the model year, because most kits here are written for a specific range and some stop at a single year. Second, four things about your own truck: the wheel lugs, the trim, the suspension type and the driver assistance systems. Third, how much of the truck you want to change: the front springs only, the rear only, or the whole suspension with adjustable damping.
This guide is organized by truck year. Every part number here is one we sell, and every figure comes from the product's own fitment and notes.
What every owner has to check
These five checks decide more orders than lift height does.
- Wheel lugs. The ICON 2005-2023 systems (the K53005 to K53010 families and the K53161 to K53163 rear systems) are not compatible with 2005-2015 two-wheel-drive Tacomas that have 5-lug wheels. The 1995-2004 ICON systems will not fit a 2WD Tacoma with 5 wheel lug studs. The Eibach set E80-82-006-01-22 is the reverse: it is for 6-lug wheels only. Count the lugs on a wheel before you read any further.
- TRD Pro limits. On a 2017-2023 TRD Pro the ICON systems give less lift. Stage 5 gives 0-1.25 in. in front and 1 in. in the rear. Stages 8, 9 and 10 give 0-1.25 in. in front and 1.375-2.125 in. in the rear, where most other trims see 1.875-2.625 in. at the rear. The Eibach springs for the TRD Pro are made around the factory Fox shocks.
- Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS). The 2024-2025 ICON systems are not compatible with trucks that have it.
- Rear leaf springs. The 2024-2025 ICON systems will not fit submodels with rear leaf springs.
- Driver assistance recalibration. Every 2024-2025 ICON system needs the driver assistance systems recalibrated after the install.
1995 to 2004
Three kits cover the oldest trucks, two from ICON and one from Eibach.
ICON's Stage 4 system comes in two versions: K53014 with tubular upper control arms and K53014B with billet ones. Both lift the front 0-3 in. with remote reservoir coilovers, and both add a rear Add-A-Leaf kit worth 1.5 in. of rear lift, with remote reservoir rear shocks. The billet arms add on-vehicle camber and caster adjustment. Both cover Base, DLX, SR5, Limited and Pre Runner trims, and neither fits a 2WD Tacoma with 5 wheel lug studs.
Eibach's E80-82-006-01-22 is a matched set of 4 shocks and 2 front springs. It raises the front 2.5 in. and the rear 0-1 in., and it is for 6-lug wheels only. It suits an owner who wants springs and shocks matched as one system rather than ICON's arms and coilovers.
2005 to 2023: the ICON systems
One ICON part number covers both the second and third generation here, and the lift figures split by year. The front coilovers give 0-3.5 in. on a 2005-2015 Tacoma and 0-2.75 in. on a 2016-2023 Tacoma. The Stage 5 to Stage 10 systems need trimming for the recommended tire size, and every ICON part number in this section is excluded on 2005-2015 two-wheel-drive trucks with 5-lug wheels.
The stage number tells you what happens at the rear and in the shocks:
- Stage 5 (K53005, K53005T) keeps the rear simple: an Add-A-Leaf kit for 1.5 in. of rear lift and remote reservoir rear shocks.
- Stage 8 (K53008, K53008T) adds an RXT multi-rate leaf spring, with 3 adjustable rates, and an RXT rear shock whose side-mounted eyelet gives up to 20% more travel.
- Stage 9 (K53009, K53009T) keeps the Stage 8 rear and puts CDC valves on every shock, with 10 compression settings.
- Stage 10 (K53010, K53010T) keeps CDC valves on the front coilovers and swaps the rear shock for an Omega Bypass unit with 28 compression and rebound settings.
The T at the end of a part number means tubular upper control arms. Without it, the arms are billet. Tubular arms add strength and correct alignment. Billet arms also allow camber and caster adjustment on the truck.
If you only want the rear, ICON sells the RXT rear systems separately. K53161 is Stage 1, with a multi-rate leaf spring, RXT shocks and hydraulic bump stops. K53162 is Stage 2, with CDC valves on the shocks. K53163 is Stage 3, with Omega Bypass shocks. They are stand-alone kits, so do not mix them with other aftermarket kits. The 56103 is the hydraulic rear bump stop kit by itself, and it bolts to existing frame holes.
2016 to 2022: Eibach springs and a Skyjacker kit
This is the range where the choices are springs, not full systems. Pay attention to the exact years, because the sets do not overlap neatly.
- E30-82-069-02-20 raises the front 2.0 in. It is for the 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022 Tacoma, and it must be used with Eibach's Pro-Truck Sport front shocks.
- E30-82-069-04-20 is for the 2017-2019 TRD Pro with factory Fox shocks. It raises the front 1.5 in., and the Tacoma needs a rear lift block to sit level.
- E30-82-069-03-20 is for the 2020 TRD Pro with factory Fox shocks and raises the front 1.3 in. It also needs a rear lift block.
- E30-82-069-03-22 is for the 2020-2021 TRD Pro with factory Fox shocks. It includes the rear lift blocks, for 1.3 in. in front and 1.0 in. in the rear.
Skyjacker's TC536STBN is a 3 in. lift kit for the 2016-2018 Tacoma. It includes front struts, a front differential drop kit, rear lift blocks, U-bolts and rear Nitro shocks. Other parts are required for a complete set, and it does not fit models with the T/X Baja package.
2024 to 2025: the ICON stages
None of the 2005-2023 systems cover the 2024 Tacoma. It has its own ICON line, with separate part numbers, and all of it lifts the front 1.25-3 in. The stage number sets the shocks:
- Stage 2 (K53292, K53292S, K53292X) uses internal reservoir rear shocks.
- Stage 3 (K53293, K53293S, K53293T, K53293TS, K53293TX, K53293X) uses remote reservoir rear shocks.
- Stage 4 (K53294, K53294S, K53294T, K53294TS, K53294TX, K53294X) uses remote reservoir coilovers and 2.5 Aluminum Series remote reservoir rear shocks.
- Stage 7 (K53297, K53297S, K53297T, K53297TS, K53297TX, K53297X) is Stage 4 with rear lower links added.
The letters after the number work the same way across stages. T is tubular upper control arms, billet otherwise. S is triple rate rear coil springs, worth half an inch of rear lift. X is dual rate overland rear coils, and its lift figures are for a truck carrying about 600 lb of added weight in the rear. Without an S or an X, the kit keeps the factory rear spring and the included rear shocks work with 0-1 in. of rear lift.
These kits are configured for 4WD. On a 2WD Tacoma the differential drop part 55160 is not needed, and the other parts can be bought one at a time. Advertised lift ranges are for a stock truck unless the part is an X, so added accessory weight will change them. Check the AVS, rear leaf spring and driver assistance points above before you pick a stage.
