Tacoma lift kits: how far the front end will go
How you lift a Tacoma depends on which one is in the driveway. The early trucks carry torsion bars up front, and lift there means re-indexing or replacing the bars. Everything since rides on a front coilover, where the height comes from a taller spring or a complete strut assembly, and where the front suspension reaches the end of its travel well before a solid-axle truck would.
That ceiling is why the kits here stop around 3 inches rather than climbing into the range a Jeep will take. Past about 2.5 inches the control arm angle and the CV boots become the limit, which is why upper control arms turn up as a companion part rather than as an upsell.
