Choosing a strut
F-150 shocks: length is the specification that matters
The F-150 has been through more front suspension designs than almost anything else here, so the shock absorber or strut has to match both the truck and the height it currently sits at. That second half is what catches people out. A damper is not simply a quality choice, it has a stroke, and a stroke that suits a stock truck is fully extended on a lifted one long before the suspension has finished drooping.
Which is why the listings quote a ride height range rather than only a model year. Past fitment the decision is what the truck does: twin-tube shocks are the comfortable, affordable default and fade when worked hard, while monotube designs run cooler and stay consistent on rough ground. Rear shocks and fronts are sold on their own as often as in sets. Every item here names the years, cabs and drivetrains it covers. The list runs to 100 items.
