Recovery gear: the one category where ratings are not marketing
Recovery gear is the only thing on this site where getting it wrong can kill somebody. A snapped strap or a failed shackle turns several tons of stored energy into a projectile, which is why every load-bearing component carries a rated working load and why that rating is not a suggestion.
Synthetic winch line does not store energy the way steel cable does and will not take a hand off when it lets go. Soft shackles, rated d-rings and a proper recovery point bolted to the frame (not a tie-down loop) are the difference between pulling a truck out and rebuilding one.

Buy the whole recovery kit, not just the winch
A winch on its own recovers nothing. You need a rated shackle, a tree strap, a snatch block to change the angle, gloves, and something to lay over the line while it is under load. The cheapest part of a recovery kit is the part that stops it becoming dangerous.
