Coil and leaf springs: rate carries the truck, shocks control it
A spring holds the weight. A shock controls what the spring does next. Confusing the two is why people fit stiffer coil springs hoping for a better ride and get a worse one.
Rate is the number that matters: pounds per inch of compression. Too soft and a loaded truck sags and bottoms out; too stiff and an empty one skitters across washboard. Leaf springs add load capacity and axle location in one part, which is why they survive on the back of work trucks. Add-a-leaf and helper springs raise capacity cheaply at the cost of ride quality when the bed is empty.

Matching springs to what the truck actually carries
Buy for the load you carry most of the time, not the heaviest thing you have ever hauled. A truck that tows twice a year and commutes the rest is miserable on springs chosen for the trailer.
New springs settle, so measure ride height a few hundred miles in rather than the day they go on, and re-check the alignment once they have. We stock 218 spring parts from 6 brands, matched to cab, bed and drivetrain.
