What performance bolt-ons actually change
Bolt-on power has a ceiling, and it sits lower than the advertising suggests. What a cold air intake and an exhaust system genuinely change is how the engine breathes under load: throttle response, the note it makes at two thousand rpm, and how hard it has to work dragging a trailer up a grade.
On a diesel those gains are real and measurable. On a gas V8 they are modest and mostly felt rather than seen on a dyno. Air filters are the part everyone neglects and the one that actually costs power once it clogs, which is why filter care sits in here alongside the hardware rather than in a drawer somewhere.
